To honor legendary University of Georgia Head Football Coach and Athletic Director Vince Dooley, the University has renamed the the sports complex on South Lumpkin Street The Vince Dooley Athletic Complex. This project, required a to hardscape and landscape design for a gateway plaza and garden. The centerpiece of the space is a bronze statue of Coach Dooley being carried on the shoulders of his players, commemorating the 1980 National College Football Championship. A series of granite plaques surround the outer edge of the plaza and showcases the accomplishments of Coach Dooley’s career. Meandering paths with overlooks to the Athletic Complex, and a hidden garden create a lush setting for visitors to explore, relax, discover, and share in Coach Dooley’s life and his love of gardening.
